The White
of Château de Pibarnon

Le Blanc du Château de Pibarnon 2006

Grape variety

- 40% CLAIRETTE - 40% BOURBOULENC - 20 % LOCAL GRAPE VARIETIES (ROUSSANNE & VIOGNIER)

Terroir

Located on north slopes (colder), the white grapes are planted on a very interesting soil: BLUE MARL from the SANTONIAN geological period, same as Petrus or Chateau-Chalon. Altitude 900 ft.

Winemaking

Fermented at low temperature, slowly during 25 days. No wood, aged in tank, and malo finished, to keep the freshness and finesse of aromas.

Tasting

The white 2006 shows its best complexity, with aromas of white fruits, honey, flowers, and a delicate touch of spices and apricot. The fleshy mouth is refreshed by a slight acidity. The persistence in the mouth is worthy of the best vintages: powerful and long.

Vintage

Great vintage in the south of France. Lots of rain during a cold winter, and a warm spring. The summer was particularly hot and dry, and perfect to ripen the grapes properly. The terroir of Chateau de Pibarnon is good enough to keep the winter water and gives it back slowly to the vines during such a very hot summer. According to the average altitude of the terraces (900 ft), the nights were cold. Everything was perfect to get a wonderful vintage, with good acidity.

Harvest

Hand picked grapes, with a small team of pickers. Selection and triage of grapes made in the vineyard (if necessary) All grapes picked at minimum 12.8 degree natural.

Yield

35 Hl/ha.
